What is cosmetic tattooing?

Cosmetic Tattooing is the process of implanting coloured pigment into the dermis layer of the skin by means of tiny, sterile, disposable needles to produce the appearance of makeup, or to enhance the natural features of the face. Cosmetic Tattooing is considered a permanent procedure as you will not be able to wash your result off. However, your body will naturally metabolise the pigment over the years. It generally lasts between 1-5 years. The pigments used are carbon based and contain no nickel or heavy metals. The ingredients are a combination of powdered pigments, glycerin, witch hazel, isopropyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, aqua, rosin, and DMDM hydantoin.

These are safe, non-reactive substances which have been specifically designed & manufactured for implantation into human skin. They are gamma-ray sterilised, vegan and cruelty-free.

How cosmetic tattoo services do you offer?

We offer powder brows & lip blush services.

Powder Brows- a soft powder finish within a crisp outline, adding definition to the brows while correcting/enhancing the shape

Lip Blush- a soft flush of colour, designed to fix asymmetry and add the overall appearance of fullness to the lips.

How long will it last?

Cosmetic tattoo treatments are considered semi-permanent, however, they will fade over time and need to be touched up between 6 – 18 months. Frequency of touch-ups depends on a number of factors: the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), skin type and skincare routine. Typically, brows will last 1-3 years depending on the above factors.

Does it hurt?

Pain levels will vary from client to client depending on your pain threshold. We do use topical anaesthetic to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure, however, some discomfort is to be expected. It is important to note that each client will respond differently and no guarantees can be made on the effectiveness of the numbing cream/gel. It is best to avoid undergoing cosmetic tattooing procedures when you are on your period as you will typically be more sensitive during this time.

How many treatments are needed?

A minimum of two treatments are usually needed, 6 weeks apart. The colour will appear bold at first, and will lighten a significant amount throughout the following 10 days post procedure. Some clients prefer this, while others prefer a bolder look. At the second treatment, the colour retention will be assessed and adjustments will be made as necessary. Everybody heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly the first time, do not worry, you can always go darker and add more density at your next appointment.

Colour Selection and Shape

We factor in your natural hair colour, eye colour, skin tone and personal preference when deciding on colour choices. Please be aware the colour intensity will be significantly darker immediately after the procedure and will fade by 30-50% after the healing process in the following 10 days. The shape is pre-drawn and measured completely custom to your facial features, tattooing will only begin once you have agreed on the shape.

How to prepare for your appointment

It is not recommended to undergo cosmetic tattooing procedures while

menstruating, doing so could lead to heightened pain levels and increased

bleeding during procedure. You must not consume any alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before your procedure. Do not take fish oil,  or any blood thinners (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Niacin) for 48 hours before your procedure, this may cause excess bleeding and may affect your results.

Refrain from using any skin thinning products on the brow area for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores or moles in or around the brow area.

Cosmetic botox and fillers should be done 2 weeks prior or 2 weeks after your appointment.

You will not be able to receive a tattoo service if you are pregnant.

You will not be able to receive a tattoo service you if you are prone to keloid scarring. Facial treatments such as chemical peels, skin needling or microdermabrasion should be undergone no less than 2 weeks before your treatment.

Do not tint wax, or pluck the brows for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

Aftercare

Do not apply any creams or moisturisers to the brow. 3 hours after your appointment you must cleanse the brows with the wipes given to you at your appointment. Then allow the brows to dry heal.

You cannot get your healing eyebrows wet (7-10 days); You must use facial wipes or a face washer as an alternative to cleansing during this time.

The entire healing process can take up to 4 weeks, however, the first 10 days post procedure are crucial and 90% of your result will depend on how well you follow your aftercare instructions during this time.

You will be unable to exercise for the duration of the initial healing process. You can not expose the area to direct sunlight during this period.

After 5-7 days, exfoliation will take place. The top layer of the skin will peel off, leaving a softer, lighter colour below. After this process is completed, you can return back to your normal routine.

You cannot give blood for 6 months after having cosmetic tattooing done.

How do I look after my new brows/lips once healed?

A Sunscreen of SPF-50 should be applied daily after healing and is required to help keep colour true. Sun exposure will make the colour fade faster.
Fading speed depends on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment colour used, broken capillaries, and if any chemical peels were done after your procedure. If you are planning a chemical peel, laser treatment or other medical procedure, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo. They must avoid the tattooed area.
